Some claim that the Church of God members cannot leave the church because they are taught that they cannot be saved without keeping the Sabbath day and the Passover. They insist that the World Mission Society Church of God controls its members’ thoughts by frightening them.

If their argument is true, it is concluded that Jesus and the Apostle Paul also controlled the minds of people. Jesus stressed the importance of the Passover by saying, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you.” And He kept the Passover with the Disciples and said, “The Passover wine is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” Jesus established the Passover for the forgiveness of our sins. In other words, if we do not keep the Passover, we cannot have the forgiveness of sins.

Jesus also showed an example of keeping the Sabbath day as was his custom (Luke 4:16.) He said to the disciples, “Make disciples of all nations, baptizing them, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. (Matthew 28:19-20)

The Apostle Paul also kept the Passover and the Sabbath day by following Jesus’ examples.

But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! (Galatians 1:8)

The Apostle Paul said that he was a minister of a new covenant (2 Corinthians 3:6) and also a servant (minister) of gospel (Colossians 1:23.) So it’s obvious that he preached the New Covenant including the Passover. He even said that those who follow other gospel would be eternally condemned. Did Jesus and Paul frightened people and brainwashed their thoughts?

And some insist that the Church of God is a cult because its members study the Bible hard. The Bible contains the words of God. Who will read and study the Bible? Do the people of other religions study the Bible? Rational people will easily know their argument does not make sense at all.

It’s natural that God’s people follows the teachings of Jesus and observe the Sabbath day and the Passover. However, those who do not obey the New Covenant slander the Church of God with an absurd claim. Will it be possible to be saved without obeying the commandments of Jesus?

If you love me, you will obey what I command. (John 14:15)
